I had trouble with my eligibility for student loans because they failed to report my scholarship amount. They make a mistake and you end up paying for it.
This is a nice university, and I would recommend it, but watch the Financial Aid Office like a hawk. They will screw you hard if you let them. And they won't even buy you a nice dinner before they do it.
The administration really works with you to advance your ideas. I attended a Phi Theta Kappa conference and I enjoyed the campus layout. It's a bit older and could use a fresh coat of paint here and there, but it was very clean, and the people were kind. That's more important that the condition of the building.
Absolutely horrific. I only attended here to take one course while I am home for the summer. Their information systems are the worst I have ever experienced. They have no systems in place to inform you when payments are due, their "webpage" designated for due dates are not only hard to find, but for the wrong years. The website they use for your student account is extremely difficult to use. They need to figure something out here. Not only did I have to pay a late fee for my tuition due to their lack of adequate informing sources, their online system for that refunded my payment AND charged me a refund fee. Completely ridiculous. IF you plan on going to this school, plan on searching for any due dates for payments at least a month in advance. They will do their best to make sure are as uninformed as possible. I will never be taking a course here again.
Really good and helpful staff, but some tenure professors are lazy. The school itself is good.
Several generations of my family have attended college here and everyone has a horror story regarding that office. They lost my mother's financial aid file one year. Lost it.
The school itself is clean and nice. The staff is very professional, and cares about your post-graduation success. I cannot say the same for the housing. There's never any parking for housing, even though students pay more than nicer apartments just to live in the smelly, falling apart West Hall (the cheapest dorm). The parking lots are set up to trick students into parking in the wrong spot, then the parking service slaps them with a parking fee. There were always more fees that I didn't know about, but they would put onto my bursar bill. When I reserved a dorm for my next semester, my living situation changed. It had cost me $100 to reserve the room that I knew that I would lose if I cancelled my reservation. What I didn't know is they also stick you with a $250 cancellation fee. Had I known this I may have been more wary about reserving a dorm. They told me that rooms go fast for UCO, but there were plenty of empty ones, even during the semester, which made the excuse for the cancellation fee even more infuriating. Long story short, I feel burned and scammed by housing, and am very much considering going to a different school for that reason alone.
Nice classes, good professors. But, and I am not exaggerating, the Financial Aid Office is a train wreck. A train wreck you have to deal with every single semester.
